Getting in the Game

Getting in the Game: Understanding Your Role in God's Team

Being part of God's team isn't about qualifications or talent - it's about responding to His call. Unlike sports teams that select based on ability, God's team is open to anyone who accepts His invitation. We are all first-round draft picks in His eyes.
What Does it Mean to Be on God's Team?

City Church's mission is to lead people in loving God, loving others, and becoming fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ. This happens as we worship, growth, and serve together as a team. While we're part of the global Family of God, we also have specific roles to play in our local church community.

What Position Should I Play on God's Team?

Everyone has a unique position and purpose on God's team. Just as a football team needs different players in different roles, the church needs people serving in various capacities. God has prepared good works in advance for each of us to do (Ephesians 2:10).

Your position might be:
  • Serving in children's ministry
  • Greeting visitors
  • Leading small groups
  • Supporting missions
  • Using your talents in worship
  • Encouraging others in their faith

What Challenges Will I Face on God's Team?

We face an adversary who uses tactics like:
  • Division and discord
  • Distractions from our purpose
  • Discouragement through lies
  • Doubt about our worth and calling

But we can overcome these challenges through:
  • Unity with other believers
  • Focus on God's mission
  • Truth from Scripture
  • Confidence in God's love

How Do I Play the Right Way?

Playing the right way means:
  • Following God's playbook (the Bible)
  • Maintaining direct communication (prayer)
  • Being coachable and humble
  • Encouraging teammates
  • Finishing strong in our faith

Life Application

This week, consider these questions:
  1. Am I actively participating on God's team or sitting on the sidelines?
  2. What position has God equipped me to play?
  3. How can I encourage others on the team?
  4. Am I finishing strong in my faith journey?

Challenge: Take one step to get more involved in serving this week. This could mean joining a small group, volunteering in a ministry, or encouraging someone in their faith journey. Remember - we know who wins in the end, but we still need to stay in the game and finish strong.
